Kokoda House is a contemporary family residence in North Ryde that reinterprets the traditional courtyard house through a series of sculptural forms, carefully framed views and richly textured materials.
Designed for multigenerational living, the home is organised around a central internal courtyard that brings natural light, landscape and a sense of calm into the heart of the house. A mature olive tree anchors the courtyard, creating a visual connection between living spaces and providing a constantly changing focal point throughout the day.
The architecture is defined by a robust brick façade that wraps the home in a warm and enduring material palette. Curved forms, deep reveals and a distinctive circular window soften the building's geometry, creating a contemporary expression that balances solidity with elegance.
At the centre of the home, a sculptural staircase connects three levels of living spaces, acting as both circulation and architectural feature. Generous communal areas support family life and entertaining, while carefully considered private spaces provide moments of retreat and connection to the surrounding landscape.
